Chiropractic Management of Neck Pain: A Retrospective Case Series from a Private Practice
Background: Neck pain is a prevalent musculoskeletal condition that impairs quality of life and function. Conservative care, including chiropractic, is a common treatment approach. This report summarizes patient outcomes following chiropractic management for neck pain at a single clinic. Methods: A retrospective case series was conducted on 13 patients treated for neck pain at Back To Health Chiropractic in Zeeland, MI. Data were extracted from patient records, including chief complaint, baseline pain scores (on a 10-point scale), and post-treatment pain levels. The primary outcome was the percentage reduction in self-reported pain. Results: The cohort (n=13) experienced a mean pain reduction of 86% (median 87%). Treatments involved a multimodal approach, including chiropractic adjustments, spinal decompression, laser therapy, and SoftWave therapy. Qualitative improvements in mobility and function, such as the ability to drive and sleep comfortably, were frequently reported. Individual cases demonstrated substantial pain relief over treatment periods ranging from four weeks to several months. Conclusion: The findings from this retrospective case series suggest that a multimodal chiropractic approach may be effective in reducing pain and improving function for patients with neck pain. The results are promising but must be interpreted with caution due to the study's limitations, including the lack of a control group.
