Management of Post-Surgical Neuropathy with a Multimodal Chiropractic Protocol: A Retrospective Case Series
Background: Post-surgical neuropathy is a challenging condition characterized by nerve pain, numbness, and functional loss, significantly impacting patient quality of life. Conservative management options are actively sought to improve outcomes. This study reports on patient outcomes following a multimodal chiropractic protocol. Methods: A retrospective case series was conducted by reviewing patient files at a single chiropractic and wellness clinic. Six adult patients (n=6) with a history of post-surgical neuropathy who completed a course of care were included. The primary outcome measure was patient-reported percentage of improvement in sensation, comfort, and function over their treatment period. Results: The cohort of six patients (3 male, 3 female) reported a mean functional improvement of 77% (median 75%) following care. Treatment durations ranged from 8 to 20 weeks. Patients experienced improvements in symptoms including tingling, numbness, and nerve pain in both upper and lower extremities. No adverse events were reported in the reviewed files. Conclusion: The findings suggest that a multimodal chiropractic protocol may be a beneficial component of care for individuals with post-surgical neuropathy. The observed improvements in patient-reported function are promising, but these results are preliminary. Rigorous prospective research, including randomized controlled trials, is necessary to validate these observations and establish causality.
