Chiropractic Management of Shoulder Pain: A Retrospective Case Series from a Private Practice
Background: Shoulder pain is a common musculoskeletal complaint that significantly impairs quality of life and daily function. Conservative care, including chiropractic, is often sought to alleviate pain and restore mobility. This report summarizes outcomes for a series of patients treated for shoulder pain at a single chiropractic clinic. Methods: A retrospective case series was conducted by reviewing patient files at Back To Health Chiropractic in Zeeland, MI. Sixteen (n=16) cases with a primary complaint of shoulder pain and documented pre- and post-treatment mobility metrics were included. Data on chief complaint, baseline functional limitations, and post-treatment mobility improvement were extracted and analyzed. Results: The cohort (n=16) demonstrated a mean mobility improvement of 85% (median 83%). While numeric pain scores were not consistently tracked for aggregate analysis, individual case reports indicated a reduction in pain and a return to normal activities. Treatments included chiropractic adjustments, corrective exercises, and adjunctive modalities such as SoftWave therapy and class IV laser. Conclusions: The findings suggest that a multi-modal chiropractic approach may be effective for improving shoulder mobility and function. The observed outcomes in this case series support the role of chiropractic care as a viable conservative treatment option for certain presentations of shoulder pain.
